In a city whose cuisine thrives on guanciale and pecorino, being vegan can be a challenge. Most trattorie offer classic dishes like cacio e pepe and saltimbocca that are off-limits to vegans. So whether you’re already a vegan, thinking of becoming one, or just want to experience an evening of alternative eating, I will deliciously demonstrate that a satisfying meal doesn’t have to rely on meat or dairy. Dinners are held at my home near St. Peter's Basilica.
I live a short distance away from the Vatican City and St.Peter's, in a beautiful, quiet and cozy neighbourhood. The way to my apartment is filled with cobblestoned pathways and beautiful old houses. As it is also on a hill, you can catch a glimpse of the Roman skyline, over the Vatican City.
In the summer and when the weather is beautiful, we can have dinner in my well kept garden where you can see and smell the herbs I will use for your dishes and the lemon tree that I use for my homemade limoncello!
My husband and I had a great time with Allesandro (Tony) in his home. His attention to detail was amazing. We had the pleasure to dine with another couple as well which made the experience even better. We loved all the foods he prepared and especially his home made lemoncello. Yum! Tony paired each plate with the perfect wine and provided us a story of the wine and the recipe itself. I truly enjoyed the entire thing and would do it again in a heartbeat.
We enjoyed a wonderful five course dinner with Alessandro at his " home restaurant" in an intimate teracce setting. Alessandro had put a lot of thought into the menu, and the dishes were perfect for a very warm August evening. Everything was fresh and light, and many of the ingredients were from his garden. Alessandro was also a gracious host shared lots of insights into local food and wine. Everything combined to make a wonderful, memorable evening.
We booked a four-course dinner at Alessandro's home restaurant via BonAppetour. It was a great opportunity to experience a genuine home-cooked meal with a local host, in a non-touristy neighbourhood (albeit not far from the Vatican). From the start, communication with Alessandro was very easy - he was friendly and quick to respond. We were a group of four with very different dietary requirements and preferences, which Alessandro took into account with the menu. Our opinions of individual dishes differed, but we all agreed that the pasta and chicken were outstanding - the best dishes I'd tasted in Rome! The bruschetta made with homegrown tomatoes was also stunning. I don't drink, so Alessandro introduced me to Chinotto, which was refreshing and absolutely delicious. Alessandro was a great host. He explained how he made each dish and we had a very interesting conversation about all sorts of things! As it was summer, we sat in the (sheltered) garden and were able to go up to the roof terrace and see the homegrown herbs and vegetables he used. Afterwards he sent us an email with plenty of food-related tips and recommendations, and we visited one of the recommended food stores which was indeed amazing! I highly recommend dinner with Alessandro. There are many great restaurants in Rome, but Alessandro's kindness and hospitality, and the personalised experience, made this event truly memorable.
One of the best experiences I had in Rome. If looking for an authentic italian home dinner, this is a great option. Alessandro was very hospitable and shared with us his knowledge of food and his favorite dishes. Make sure to come on an empty stomach. Some of the best food I have tasted in Rome.
Dinner at Alessandro's was a truly delightful part of my short stay in Rome, and the best meal I had without question. I was on my own, and no one else booked on the same night, so I had a delicious meal made just for me. I enjoyed our conversation and learned a lot from Alessandro about the ingredients in the dishes he prepared. He is a talented chef and he and Elena are gracious hosts and I highly recommend this experience to anyone visiting Rome!
My husband and I had a dining experience with Alessandro during our trip to Rome that was fabulous to say the least. It came at the end of a 3 week trip to Italy mostly in Puglia and was most definitely our best meal of the entire trip. Alessandro is a talented chef as well as a sommelier. Our meal was prepared with care and incredibly fresh with all local ingredients and a great wine pairing of a regional wine. I hope to duplicate some of the dishes when I return home. The conversation was engaging and it was great getting to know Alessandro as a person as well as a chef. We left with full tummies, well satisfied and friends. We hope that our paths cross again in Italy or possibly a trip for Alessandro and his girlfriend to California. If you book a food experience with Alessandro I can tell you right now you won't be disappointed. Bon appetit as they say!
