This was a great experience. From the market stroll to the apartment where we had tapas, wine, and cooked some awesome dishes, everything was excellent. A very knowledgable chef, a very good interpreter, and a very good menu were the hilights of this adventure. Authentic, incredibly tasty paella was the star of the show but there were some great tapas, a very good white wine (Vermentino - if I recall), creme Catalan, and a spanish potato omelet. This was one of the great days of our recent holiday.
We booked this trip wanting to know how to cook a favorite food as well as other tapas recipes as well. This experience over exceeded my expectations. As we arrived to the facility, it i so lovely and grand. Elegantly decorated. The area has a prep area, sort of like a long island with bar chairs, lovely! The dining table is also set beautifully, and this is where we eat after preparing our creations for today. We got to meet Chef Alfred and his assistant Teresa (sp?). Since my cooking class included a tour of the market place, we went to the market (La Boqueria) first. Teresa had shown us a tour of the market and explained a little history of the market. She showed us spices and ingredients that were used for our cooking class. So much fun and a wealth of knowledge just to see first hand the market place. I got to bring some of those spices back home from the market. When we got back, we got to sit around the long island area (prep area). Tapas were displayed nicely. We got to have a drink first and then we were given some history on the different types of tapas in front of us as we eat and drink. It was amazing and very informative. I appreciate all the knowledge shared on the food that we eat and where it comes from. Chef and Teresa (Teresia, sp?) explains in detail the purpose of preparation and history of it all. I love the fact that chef let's you actually prepare the dish after he initially shows you what to do. I am very happy I took this class. He also will send the recipes back to you so you can prepare them at home. I am definitely preparing this and sharing these yummy dishes to family and friends. After cooking, we got to enjoy our creations sitting around his beautifully decorated dining table and more wine of course. A lot of food and wine, this is worth doing while in Barcelona! Thanks Chef and Teresa!
This was a highlight of our trip to Spain! The visit to the market was fun, and offered an opportunity to experience how locals shop. The cooking (and eating) that followed was great - excellent food, a knowledgeable and friendly chef, and a beautiful environment. The recipes were emailed to us after the class, and I have yet to try at home, but they are well written and in appropriate measurements for Americans. Highly recommended!!
Had a wonderful time with my mom. Was thinking of doing a private class, but we're glad to meet the fun, adventurous group of new friends. There was too much food, and every bite was delicious. We had a great time, and great wine, drinks, fun. Cooking area is beautiful. We would do it again, esp since this group maxed out at 12, which kept the class close and intimate.
