The idea is for you to come to my home and enjoy a relaxing meal with good conversation in a welcoming atmosphere. Clinking of glasses, some stories about my family and about Frascati's history, definitely some small talk too and hopefully some laughter: all things that are so good for the soul! Did you know, for instance, that the word "company" derives from the Latin "cum panis", meaning "with bread". You see, the idea of breaking bread at the table with someone meant that at the very least you were not enemies and that's how we get the word "companion" too! The motto of my food blog is "Good food to put you in the mood" and I definitely want the mood of the experience to be a good one!
Frascati is a historic small town, south east of Rome. Trains run from Rome's Termini Station once an hour, and the train journey is roughly 30 minutes. Nestling in the Alban Hills, Frascati has a glorious view of Rome and houses one of the most beautiful and famous of baroque papal residences, the Villa Aldobrandini. The last in line of the Stuart royal family, Henry Benedict (brother of the famous Bonnie Prince Charlie), was bishop of Frascati and lived here for decades. Back in the day when Europeans travelled to Italy for the Grand Tour, Frascati was always on the map. In his 'Italian Journey' (1787), Goethe wrote that Frascati was a little paradise. Frascati and the other neighbouring towns on the Alban Hills were a bit like the Hamptons to Rome's being New York, you get the idea? And this is Rome's wine country, we've been making wine since even before Ancient Rome! There is also great gelato in the town in case you'd like some later.
Hi there! I am half Italian, I love to cook, I love hosting dinners with friends and family, and I
Josephine is a wonderful (Italian) cook, but most importantly on wonderful person. We spent a few hours at her beautiful apartment in Frascati learning how to prepare many types of pasta and accompanying sauces (learned 7 recipes!), and we really had a blast. Not only is she very knowledgeable about the topic, but the passion she has for authentic, sustainable and delicious Italian cuisine is contagious! The most precious thing about meeting Josephine, is her kindness and enormous generosity. We left her home feeling like family members, not only having learned about Italian cuisine and the Italian way of life, but most importantly having had the opportunity to meet with her and her family. If you are looking for an immersive Italian cooking experience and if you enjoy meeting exceptional people, I encourage you with no hesitation to meet Josephine and her husband Pino. We will (for sure) be back in Rome/Frascati one day just to see them again!!!
