The philosophy behind this class is to use locally-sourced, sustainable and seasonal ingredients while guiding you through a tasty journey of Greek flavors. This home-based culinary experience takes place in a beautiful newly-renovated apartment located in the center of Athens.
During this experience, you will learn how to cook famous recipes from all over Greece and you will get to know the history and origins of their key ingredients. You will prepare and cook every recipe under the instructions of a food expert who will “travel” you all around the country based on the ingredients you use.
You will first become an expert on how to prepare dakos salad, one of the most beloved local salads using ingredients from the Greek islands and of course the famous Greek extra virgin olive oil. We will then prepare fava together, a spread which is served as a meze and appears on every Greek’s table as an appetizer. This hands-on experience continues with a delicious savory pie, an all-time favorite dish for Greeks, the famous pita. You will make your own homemade phyllo by rolling each sheet of dough and filling it with the king of all cheeses, the delicious feta!
When it comes to Greek cuisine everybody knows the iconic moussaka, one of the most popular dishes for both locals and visitors. Get to know all the secrets of this recipe and surprise everyone back home with your culinary knowledge of Greek cuisine. There is also a vegetarian option for non-meat eaters, yiayia’s gemista, in other words, Greek stuffed vegetables with rice, fresh herbs, and olive oil.
For those with a sweet tooth, the biggest surprise comes at the end of this culinary journey. The traditional Greek orange pie full of aromatic scents will become your favorite dessert and also the perfect closure for this experience.
During the meal, you will be served white or red Greek wine. You will also try the famous mastiha liqueur and learn more about this amazing product which grows only on a specific area in the whole world, the island of Chios. We will end our culinary experience giving you cooking tips while enjoying a relaxing tea made from Greece’s most popular herbs or a traditional Greek coffee. And if you feel lucky enough, we may try "reading" your coffee cup and tell you everything you want to know about the future!
The lessons will be taking place in their purpose-built kitchen in their newly-renovated space. It is centrally located right off Victoria Square, next to the metro station and just one metro stop from Omonoia. The philosophy behind the lessons is to use locally-sourced, sustainable and seasonal ingredients and guide the guests through a great tasty journey of Greek flavours.
