My husband Aniruddha and I are the co-creators and chefs of the Bombay Howrah Dining Car. We were born and brought up in Mumbai, and have lived and worked in Hong Kong and Singapore.
The Bombay Howrah Dining Car is a supper club that focuses on regional Indian cuisines from the states of Maharashtra and West Bengal (in the West and East of India). The best Marathi and Bengali food is usually found in homes and as a result very few people have a chance to try these cuisines. Being passionate cooks ourselves we want more people to try the food we grew up eating but with a modern sensibility. And we believe that the personalized dining experience we offer at our home is a wonderful way to enjoy these cuisines, explore the diversity of Indian food and meet new people.
Our house is centrally located close to Orchard Road.
The food and its presnetation was very well thought of. Very interesting hosts. Overall a very pleasurable evening. Look forward to doing it again.
Interesting experience. Good company and the food was very good and well thought through. I would particularly recommend the malvani gnocchi and the steamed yogurt. Feedback : Darjeeling tea at the end would be an icing to the already delicious cake
Our second time in Priya and Aniruddha's beautiful place, we had a great time. The menu was very different compared to last time and the innovative creations are delightful to view and eat. Highly recommended
This was a great dining experience. The menu was innovative, the food was delicious and the conversation was fun. The hosts took good care of us...we hope very much to be back!
Everything about the experience was absolutely fantastic. Priya and Aniruddha are such lovely hosts. The evening was full of delectable food, interesting conversations and quite a lot of laughter! The different courses were presented beautifully, the flavours were exquisitely balanced and the desserts were out of the world (masala chai pannacotta FTW). Do not even think twice and book your spot at their next available date.
We really enjoyed the warm and attentive hospitality and equally delicious and thoughtful menu. With 6 courses - the presentation, the flavors and the anecdotes accompanying each course left us feeling really satisfied and inspired. The combining of traditional with creative (doi begun on a cracker, anyone? ) tells you these folks are pros! Great company, Great food - all in all an evening well-spent!
An unpretenious feast for the senses... in a cozy home filled with beautiful memories from around the world & companionable hosts! I was looking forward to a traditional Indian dinner, and was pleasantly surprised by the modern Indian fusion cuisine served 'kaiseki' style - perfect for the ladies. Every course was a medley of colours, textures and flavours. I loved the appetising prawn in tomato-raisin chutney, with just the right balance of spices and tangy tomato. And of course there is always space for a charming dessert of mango yoghurt tart served on edible flowers, to round up an enjoyable meal amidst free-flowing conversations and warm company. Go for the wonderful food, but expect to leave with a memorable experience!
There is something to be said about being served a gourmet meal in this eclectic house. You feel like a part of an exclusive club, yet with all the warmth of an Indian home. I have lived in India all my life & been blessed to have had Bengali & Marathi cuisines over the years. But not quite the ones I’ve had at Priya & Aniruddha’s place. The combination of the two cuisines & the flavours that both sharply contrast and blend with each other make you want to come back for more. To name a few, the Tomato Saar Sorbet & the Prawn Malai curry look deceptively simple dishes, except when you taste the complexity of flavours in your mouth. There is a lot to be said for the variety that is served, using Indian & local ingredients. And last, but not the least making Indian food look good on a plate is by no means a small achievement. But then, nothing less should expected from our MasterChef Asia contestant (Priya) and the ‘French’ Bengali (Aniruddha). I would strongly recommend entrusting your palate with these two home chefs & enjoy their company & the course on the Bombayhowrahdiningcar.
A beautiful story takes us through amazing dishes. Indian based cuisine with a few international touches. Better come with a very empty belly because there are a lot of delicious things to try and I did not fell like leaving a single crumb in my plate !
