ABOUT THEEXPERIENCE

We provide English language cooking experiences for visitors to Japan's culinary capital! Each class lasts 2 - 3 hours (starting at 11am and 5pm daily) in which you will learn about Osaka's food culture and make a full Japanese meal under the guidance of experienced local chefs. We will also provide you with enough information to recreate everything on our menu after you return home!

After the cooking finishes, we will all sit down, chat, and enjoy our culinary creations together over a glass of local sake or green tea. We really want to show the world how Osaka eats, It's definitely a great thing to do in Osaka!

ABOUT THEMENU

When most people hear Japanese food, they think of sushi, sashimi and tempura, but this is only one side of Japanese cuisine. In this activity, you will learn about real people’s homes and discover some of the tastes and techniques of Japanese home cooking.

We will start by making three seasonal side dishes, including dashimaki, a delicious, intricate and beautiful Japanese omelette. After this we will make miso soup from scratch, allowing you to make this Japanese staple whenever you want. For the main event, we have combined three Japanese favourites: fresh ginger, pork loin and fragrant shiso leaves, these are served with fluffy white rice as our 'main'. The grand finale is a lesson in making mochi, a traditional Japanese dessert made with rice flour and Okinawan honey.

ABOUT THELOCATION

Tucked away in a little alleyway in the famous Shin Sekai district of South Osaka, our classes take place in an old Japanese house that we (along with our husbands) renovated in the summer of 2014 to make way for our cooking school. We are really proud of our efforts and we think you are going to love what we have done with the place!

The kitchen dining area has Japanese style shoji sliding doors and homemade wooden counters and benches which are both comfortable and authentic. Our house can be a little difficult to find so we will come and meet you underneath the famous Tsutenkaku tower before we start. Take the JR line to Shin Imamiya station or the Subway to Doubutsuen-mae or Ebisucho stations, and just say Tsutenkaku to anybody, they will know!
