My inspiration in cooking began about 60 years ago, when I saw my aunt who was a professional Thai food chef demonstrated her cooking skills. Since then during my school holiday my aunt would teach me how to cook and sometimes she would invite her friends or food guru to teach us new technology. After graduation (B.Sc in Medical Technology) from Chulalongkorn university, and worked with Bangkok Christian Hospital for 3 years. Then got married and opened a small restaurant in front of our house for more than 15 years before we demolished our old house and built our 8 stories building "Baan 225 Sawasdee". For love of cooking and sharing our cooking experience, "Cooking Corner by Ya Pao" comes to life. Anyone who loves to know about Thai cooking, Thai food, Thai dessert and also Thai culture are welcome!

Cooking with Usa was such a wonderful experience. My sisters and I traveled to Thailand over the Thanksgiving holiday and spent the day with Usa and her family. She spent time in the market telling us about the different ingredients and allowing us to smell and taste as we went. When we arrived at her home she carefully explained each step of the dishes we made, allowing for a hands on experience. As a former cook I asked a lot of questions and she was very patient with me. She also told us about Thai culture and foods from different regions while we ate our meal. We can't rave enough about what a wonderful time we had and how great cooking with Usa is.

I had the chance to dine with Usa and her family while we were curating hosts in Bangkok. The cooking area is located next to a pool surrounded by beautiful plants and Usa is a very patient teaching us how to make Som Tum using pestle and mortar as we spill the ingredients everywhere! We were also accompanied by her son who also loves cooking. Over the dining table, Usa and her family kept us engaged as we share more about food in our home countries. We have also found out that she is regularly invited to teach Thai culture and cuisine at a school nearby her home. One of my favourite parts of this dinner was Usa's homemade coconut ice-cream served inside a cute coconut porcelain with a side of homemade pumpkin bread! It was a lovely and unique experience right in the hearts of bustling Bangkok!
