ABOUT THEEXPERIENCE

My husband Aniruddha and I are the co-creators and chefs of the Bombay Howrah Dining Car. We were born and brought up in Mumbai, and have lived and worked in Hong Kong and Singapore.
The Bombay Howrah Dining Car is a supper club that focuses on regional Indian cuisines from the states of Maharashtra and West Bengal (in the West and East of India). The best Marathi and Bengali food is usually found in homes and as a result very few people have a chance to try these cuisines. Being passionate cooks ourselves we want more people to try the food we grew up eating but with a modern sensibility. And we believe that the personalized dining experience we offer at our home is a wonderful way to enjoy these cuisines, explore the diversity of Indian food and meet new people.

ABOUT THEMENU

Our supper club menu is a modern take on traditional flavours offered over six, individually plated courses. Some of the dishes you will get to taste include Sabudana Vada (savoury sago patties), Doi Begun (an Indian babaganoush), Tomato and Coconut milk broth, Kolhapuri Mutton Chops (a spicy meat preparation from interior Maharashtra), Prawn Malai Curry (a fragrant and creamy prawn preparation from West Bengal), Bhapa Doi (steamed yoghurt pudding) & Masala Chai Panna Cotta (our take on the popular masala chai from Mumbai). We can create a completely vegetarian menu also.

The price for the set menu does not include any beverages or wine, but we are happy for you to bring your own bottle of wine.

Everything about the experience was absolutely fantastic. Priya and Aniruddha are such lovely hosts. The evening was full of delectable food, interesting conversations and quite a lot of laughter! The different courses were presented beautifully, the flavours were exquisitely balanced and the desserts were out of the world (masala chai pannacotta FTW). Do not even think twice and book your spot at their next available date.

It is an awesome experience combining warm hospitality and wanting-to-go-back food! Priya and Aniruddha make you feel so welcome and chatting with them is as easy as meeting a friend you know. Conversation revolves around food of course and more. Their house has beautiful curios each with a story that makes for great conversation. And the food.. it's a rollercoaster ride for the tastebuds.. loved each dish! This was my second visit and I am surely planning for more.

My first experience was so good, I decided to return! And this time with a group of friends who can appreciate good food, wine and company. The menu was awesome so lets do this one by one. It all started with Eggs Kejriwal, a dish that is so famous and it was as good as any I have tasted in Bombay. Its awesome how three simple things can make a dish so tasty, cheese, eggs and chilli. Then came the Mutton Kebabs!! The ones that easily melt in your mouth, with the correct hint of spices and if I can remember correctly it came with some Kasundi mixed with Mayonnaise. Total bliss! Trying my best not to drool over my laptop. Next came, Malvani Gnocchi, an sumptuous innovative dish. Gnocchi made from potatoes were awesome....and placed on a layer of spicy Malvani sauce... delicious, delicious delicious!! The next main was Prawns in tender coconut and tomato chutney with rice! Prawns are cooked inside in the Coconut itself in the oven!! It had all the right flavours of a Daab Chingri. It was all cooked and served in a green coconut. For vegetarians it can be Paneer instead of Prawns and believe me, it was awesome. Desserts, was my favourite that evening, and a dish that blew my taste buds was Bhapa Doi topped with Boozy cherries ( you could taste the brandy ) and fried almonds. Such simple ingredients but put together, the dish leaves you with such fond memories of the whole evening itself..The last dessert , Masala Chai Panna Cotta was also good. It was served in the cutting chai glasses... which only added to its taste and the over all experience. I love coming back to Bombay Howrah! The menu is always delectable and company always feels like being at 'home'

Lovely evening with warm, gracious and talented hosts! Priya and Aniruddha put their heart and soul into making your experience truly memorable. Their creative menu brings you a burst of traditional Indian flavors from classic dishes, but with surprisingly delightful twists! My favourites from last evening were the Tomato Saar (served as a sorbet), Malvani Gnocchi and the Bhapa Doi (Steamed Yoghurt Pudding). Presentation is quirky and delightful, flavours as well as textures are well balanced through the six course meal, and the hosts are clearly passionate and knowledgeable. All in all a fabulous evening! Thank you for looking after us, Priya and Aniruddha, we'll be back soon!
