ABOUT THELOCATION

The Castle of Santa Severa is one of the most important areas of historical and archaeological interest on the Tyrrhenian coast north of Rome. It stands on the site of Pyrgi, the port city connected to the ancient Caere, now Cerveteri founded between the late seventh and early sixth century BC where today stands the Castle of Santa Severa. The Etruscan town of Pyrgi was developing all around the harbor for an extension of about 10 hectares, including over the area now occupied by the castle village also the 'area of the shrine located at the southern end (excavated by the Institute of Etruscologia University La Sapienza of Rome for over fifty years).
During the course of the third century BC with the romanization of the coastal territory, on part of the Etruscan settlement was founded the Roman fort of Pyrgi, surrounded by walls in polygonal. The site was probably inhabited without interruption until late antiquity (IV - V century AD.) And it is thanks to the continuity of life on the remains of the Roman fort in the Middle Ages formed the village known as Castellum Sanctae Severae.
The castle itself was built in the fourteenth century and the village was formed as with various stages of construction during the XV - XVI century.
Over the centuries the property of the castle passed through various owners until in 1482 it became a possession of the 'Order of the Holy Spirit who was the owner for over five hundred years, until 1980. Today, the property of the monument belongs to the Lazio region that has entrusted the management to the City of Santa Marinella.
Thanks to recent restoration work funded by the Province of Rome and the Lazio Region the Castle of Santa Severa is set to become one of the most important cultural centers on the coast north of Rome; it is planned to create a museum that will include the existing National Museum Antiquarium of Pyrgi, Museum of the Sea and Navigation Antica and the new Museum of the Rock, through which retrace the historical events of the site.
In the museum of the Rock will be on display the artifacts found during the excavations that took place in conjunction with the restoration work and cared for by the Superintendent and volunteers of the Archaeological Group of the territory Cerite that have brought to light in the courtyard of the fortress a Roman era Imperial, a necropolis and an early Christian church of the fifth century, presumably to be related to the worship of the holy martyr eponima.Il Museo della Rocca will find its place within the premises of the fortress itself whose preparation involves a 3D reconstruction of the Castle Santa Severa, modeled on that of the Roman Domus Palazzo Valentini that accompany visitors on a virtual journey from the evidence of the Neanderthals until the 'Etruscan, Roman and medieval. This multimedia project, edited by Piero Angela and Paco Lanciano, and the project of the excavations and the actual restoration of the castle, were presented at the Forum Pa.
Inside the fortress over to the Museum are planned multifunctional spaces to house temporary exhibitions and other cultural activities. The buildings surrounding the courtyard of the fortress are allocated to the creation of a conference center with guest quarters on the upper floors.

Francesca was so welcoming and is a natural teacher. She was able to explain all the steps necessary to prepare an amazing meal and allowed everyone to participate in some way. Francesca's apartment was perfectly set up for our family of four as well as another family of five. We would do this again in a heartbeat. Thank you!

We had a great food experience with Magic Francesca making different types of pasta, including a ravioli. My husband and teenage son, who do very little cooking, enjoyed the afternoon, and my son said it was the highlight of the trip for him. Francesca made sure everyone was comfortable and participating. She definitely knows her stuff; we tried lemon pasta in two different restaurants in Sorrento, and we all agreed they were not as not as good as the one we made with Francesca! We are looking forward to trying Francesca's recipes when we get home!

Our cooking session with Francesca was a highlight of our trip to Rome. We not only learned how to make some fantastic recipes but we also had a really fun evening and enjoyed a delicious meal that we cooked. It was an amazing value for a full evening of entertainment and food. She made us feel right at home and was great at giving instructions that were easy to follow. I am very excited to try out my new cooking skills.

We had a great evening over at Francesca's house. She has a lovely home and is clearly experienced for cooking with a group. Everything we made was absolutely delicious and it took less for a week for us to try out some of the things we learned at home. Thank you, Francesca, for a great class!
