Want to do a local market tour in Rome but short on time? No problem!
This is a special shortened version of my Testaccio Food Tour and it is designed for travellers who want a taste of Rome in a couple of hours.
We have compressed our top-rated Testaccio Food Tour, into a 2-hour itinerary and this is ideal for those looking for a short break in between your hectic travelling schedule! The tour is held at the authentic market of Testaccio. In 2 hours, you will taste the classics and discover new flavors straight from the region's farms.
We will stop in the most famous stands, have a taste of their culinary creativities, and taste some wine in a typical wine cellar.
Testaccio Market, or what's known as Mercato di Testaccio among locals, is a classic Roman market. What used to be old covered stalls in Piazza Testaccio has shifted and transformed to a new bright building near to the MACRO museum, while still maintaining the energetic atmosphere.
In the Testaccio Market you can find a wide range of things: from an artisanal house furnishing, to a horse butcher. As such, this would be a perfect stop for souvenir shopping.
BITES OF ROME was started by my passion in good, healthy and fair food. Born and raised in Rome, I
My wife has a business trip to Rome each December and the last few years I have gotten friends to come along so I have someone to explore the city with during the day. We are serious foodies and have greatly enjoyed the local food tours to help us get our culinary bearings. We have found the "Do Eat Better" folks to be the best of the best. Jennifer and Irene are superb. They keep their groups small, are happy to work with you if you want to customize your tour a bit, and they are unbelievably knowledgeable about Italian foods and the history behind them. On top of that they are just down right fun to be with. This trip we decided to do their Farmer’s Market Food Tour on a Sunday morning. We usually say at a hotel on the Aventino Hill, so it was very convenient as we met to start the tour near the Piazza Bocca della Verità. The market is not very far away and is indoors, so it is a good tour for most any type of weather and there is not a lot of walking involved. The food tastings were fabulous... breads, cheeses, meats, olive oil, wine. Most of the marketeers farm organically and all are from the surround areas of Lazio. It's a great place to pick up some gifts such as honey or olive oil or supplies for a picnic later in the week. If you find yourself in Rome, you are missing out if you don't check out one of their tours.
Jennifer was an excellent guide, the markets were closed being that we chose the tour on a Saturday 24th December but never the less we got to see and taste so much . My kids aged from 15 and down to 6 yrs all enjoyed it . I would highly recommend it to anyone interested in Italian food or just in any food . Would love to do it again for the markets next time
If I say I enjoyed, it would be understatement, I loved it! If you want to visit Rome off the beaten path, do this tour. This tour is much more than food.We interact with locals, we talked to them, we asked for recipes, I wouldn't call it tasty, because in all the placecs where we stopped we had more than a meal. At the end Jennifer asked what we liked most and noone was able to find one thing. Everything was so delicious.... I tought I knew Rome, but we visited some amaizing spots that I've never seen before! The view of Rome from the top of Gianicolo hill was the most romantic thing one colud experinece in Rome! A great food and a very fun and entertaining afternoon.
