I should add here that all 4 of my grandparents came from Austria [ immigrated to the US - 1917ish] . I have never been to AT.- So in booking Asta I was looking for more of a natural / local feel & home atmosphere, etc..[ then say - at a restaurant]........Asta was the perfect choice for this ....her home, music, wine , food, conversation......was - perfect. The wild mushroom goulash with herb dumpling was a great combination of spices I had not tasted since my grandmother s cooking . WE hope you have the chance to visit Asta s table

We had a fantastic evening. This was our first home dining experience and won't be our last. Asta was a great host who gave us advice on Vienna, in a relaxed and unrushed environment with superb good.

Dinner with Asta was all I hoped it would be and more. Quite a daring move for me to have dinner at a stranger's home, but such was our welcome I immediately felt at ease in her lovely, unique apartment. I had asked Asta, during our online chat, to make dishes she enjoyed cooking and I was glad I did, as a three course feast of Viennese food was served with superb complementing wines. We only had three days in Vienna, so the main reason I booked this dinner on our first evening off the plane was to try and get to know a little bit about Austria and Vienna from the inside, from a locals point of view. Conversation was relaxed, easy, stimulating and informative, all I hoped for really. Asta recommended places to eat and drink, had a great night drinking cocktails at Loos American Bar, and was a mine of local information. Dinner with Asta was a highlight of our stay in Vienna, and for me, set the stage for a marvellous time in a wonderful city.

I hugely enjoyed my time at Asta's. Our dinner and chat didn't make much difference to being invited to a new friend's place. Her vintage flat is charming and cosy, and carries the distinct signature of its owner. There is an (Austrian) story behind almost every collection item. I liked that Asta had invited another Viennese friend over to join in. Our Griessnockerlsuppe, Tafelspitz and Cremeschnitte were marvellous. I just realised afterwards that I could have taken a little cooking class helping Asta prepare our Austrian food.Something to remember for next time.
