I am a fine artist and retired chef with 30+ years of fine dining experience, during which I have worked for celebrity chefs, and movie stars alike.
I specialize in pastry but I am experienced in every aspect of cookery...which started out as a hobby at the tender age of ten and developed into a career as well as life long obsession. I'm keen to use the freshest and finest ingredients possible to create authentic, tasty dishes.
My sweetie Tom and I recently moved here from Vermont, but don't let that dissuade you from believing that I will make the best Cajun/Creole food you're likely to experience in the city. A recent gumbo sale at a local fair had several locals demanding to know "just where I learned to make gumbo like that?" to which I replied, as I frequently do, "the main ingredient and key to success is love..."
We have recently added a large tent to our backyard because we love al fresco dining and also entertaining large groups. After the sun goes down, it's like a fairy garden back there - a wonderful place to experience an amazing meal with friends...
Lastly, this is but a sample menu that is entirely flexible. I will be adding more menus as time goes by and I am expert in vegan and vegetarian meals as well as the traditional New Orleans heavy on the proteins meals visitors have come to expect. I am open to cooking classes for an additional fee. Many of the dishes listed take days to prepare so it will take some doing to integrate them into a learning situation, but I'm sure that we can work it out to everyone's delight with a little finesse!
The Tremé (pronounced "tremay") is central to New Orleans and was originally known as "Back of Town." From wiki: " It is one of the oldest neighborhoods in the city, and early on it was the main neighborhood of free people of color. Historically a racially mixed neighborhood, it remains an important center of the city's African-American and Créole culture, especially the modern brass band tradition."
We also have an airbnb room that hosts up to two guests, and a neighbor/friend that can host two more just a few houses away. There are a few more, clean, comfortable and affordable places nearby as well as traditional Bed and Breakfast's as well as major hotels. Our room is frequently booked (at least a month in advance), but with planning, this would be a lovely opportunity to really immerse yourselves in an authentic New Orleans experience. Our home is full of art - mostly made by Kimberley your chef and hostess, but we have a large collection of local, authentic Gris Gris Dolls to see as well as many eclectic and fascinating objet d'art collected from around the world.
Kimberley was a good friend of my daughter's while living in Stowe, Vt. I was very fortunate to be invited on several occasions for an incredible eating experience at Kimberley's artsy, attractive fun home which always smelled delicious! I can't remember every specific meal I savored there, but I do remember this: everything Kimberley cooked was a cut above and somrthing quite special. She also made my daughter's blueberry, lemon curd wedding cake which was a true masterpiece in every way. Can you tell I'm a fan of Kimberley's?!! Absolutely!
Kimberly is a truly inspired creator! I have only had the opportunity to try some of her dessert fare. But the experience remains a fabulous taste bud memory ;) Her flair for appearance, overall beauty, ambiance of place and great taste will keep Kimberly a local food asset, wherever she may cook from!
Enjoy the company of entertaining hosts and an eclectic mix of guests surrounded by art that lets you feast your eyes while you savor the professionally and exquisitely prepared food. Specialized cocktails pair nicely with the menu. And sometimes, if you are lucky, you are treated to exceptional live music as well!
I met Kim in VT at a cafe and I was awed by her food and personality. She was so attentive, humorous and full of stories as she prepared and served the meal. She paid close attention to what each of us wanted. I highly recommend her!
