ABOUT THEEXPERIENCE

If you are spending your Christmas or New Year in Rome, I'd like to invite you to come and celebrate it together with me and my family, the traditional Roman way. It won't be so fun to have your Christmas / New Year feast in a restaurant (long queues, extra charges), and I want to make sure you experience the REAL Christmas and New Year celebrations in Rome! We love having friends over to celebrate it with us, and also meeting new friends. Besides cooking the best Italian dishes, we love to meet people from all over the world! So we would be more than delighted to welcome you to join us in our Christmas and New Year celebration in the heart of Rome.

We will have a traditional Roman style feast, so it would be a great way to immerse yourself in the local culture, and get to experience first-hand, how Christmas and New Year is celebrated in Rome, Italy. I hope it could be one of your most memorable Christmas/ New Years' celebration, as we share together some of my signature dishes, wines chosen by me, and also the company of new friends. I look forward to welcoming all of you to my home to share these moments of celebration together with me and my girlfriend! So come by and let me give you a taste of the best Italian holiday dishes and of the Roman culture! By the end you will be able to say Buon Natale e felice Anno nuovo (Merry Christmas and a happy New Year) !

ABOUT THEMENU

The Christmas menu will include:


Appetizer:
Mixed fried vegetables

First Course:
Cappelletti in broth (with meat); OR
Pasta with tuna, mushrooms and tomatoes.

Main Course:
Roast pork with vegetables sauce; OR
Anchovies and potato pie.

Sides:
Fennel salad with oranges and olives.

Dessert:
Selection of traditional Christmas cakes


The New Year's Eve menu will include:

Appetizer:
Selection of meats and cheeses; OR
Selection of smoked fish.

First Course:
Fettuccine with porcini mushrooms; OR
Risotto with seafood.

Main Course:
Baked salmon with mushrooms and tomatoes; OR
Meatloaf with pistachios.

Sides:
Fennel salad with oranges and olives.

Dessert:
Selection of traditional New Year's cakes

As always, in the two menus are included: water, wine (chosen and matched by me), coffee and my homemade limoncello!

ABOUT THELOCATION

I live a short distance away from the Vatican City and St.Peter's, in a beautiful, quiet and cozy neighbourhood. The way to my apartment is filled with cobblestoned pathways and beautiful old houses. As it is also on a hill, you can catch a glimpse of the Roman skyline, over the Vatican City.
In the summer and when the weather is beautiful, we can have dinner in my well kept garden where you can see and smell the herbs I will use for your dishes and the lemon tree that I use for my homemade limoncello!

This was probably the highlight of our dining experiences in Rome. We had made arrangements thru BonAppetour. BonAppetour lets you discover amazing food experiences and events. They offer everything from food tours, cooking classes, bar crawls, dinner parties, and much more. This was our first time using We read thru the listings on their website for Rome and chose Alessandro, who was offering a truly Roman feast overlooking the Vatican City. Alessandro is a personal chef and sommelier. It was very easy to make these arrangements with him online. He was extremely responsive to our every question. We knew we were in for a real treat, and he did not disappoint us. He really paid attention to our requests and prepared a dinner for us that perfectly suited our tastes. BonAppetour, and we were so pleased. We will definitely try them again in other cities around the world. He gave us wonderful directions to his home. (We were able to take a bus from our apartment to his home.) We were warmly greeted by Alessandro, who we will now call Tony, because we are friends forever. It was a lovely evening so we dined al fresco on a delightful, covered patio. He even had a heater in the event it got cold. Since it was just the two of us and Tony, we sat for a while and got to know each other. We were thrilled to learn how he became a chef and sommelier. He offered us a white wine called Trebbiano from the Sant’Andreas Winery (about 1-1/2 hours south of Rome), which he explained was one of his favorites and he was so surprised to learn that we had visited that same winery three days previously. Tony is the consummate chef – he is really into making his guests have a wonderful food experience. He makes everything and uses the freshest, local, seasonal ingredients available. Our dinner started with bruschetta (a crunchy bread with tomatoes) – a perfect start. This was followed by a delicious risotto with artichokes. Artichokes were in season, and this risotto was light and full of flavor. What made this dinner even more special was that Tony dined with us. We were delighted when Tony’s girlfriend joined us - we really enjoyed the stimulating conversations. Our main course was delicately prepared chicken slices in an orange sauce accompanied by a fennel salad with oranges. The dessert for us was a banana cake with strawberries – a terrific finish to a perfect meal. Everything was beautifully prepared and presented. Ah, but we were not finished. Their final act of kindness was to present us with Limoncello made from the lemon trees growing right next to where we were seated. If you come to Rome and want to have a unique dining experience, book an evening with Alessandro. You will not be disappointed. We had a great time!

A great highlight of my trip to Rome! I enjoyed a wonderful 5 course meal with Alessandro (Tony) and a lovely family of 3 also visiting Rome. This is a great way to connect with other tourists. Tony is a considerate host; from the dinner setting outside in his garden, to the pairing of wine with food, to the conversation and stories of Rome. He really ensures you a great evening. The food is divine and dont miss out on the limoncello! Best i had in Rome. Thanks again Tony!

Book a food experience with Alessandro and you will not be disappointed. He and his partner Elena give you a special evening with all home made food. Even the limoncello at the end he makes from his own citrus tree. Delicious it was, I never drink this liquor but I really enjoyed. As he is a sommelier too, he finds the best wine with the food. This evening a special wine that grows near the sea so it has a very little salty taste. It was perfect with the hole dinner. Alessandro explained the special Roman food he makes while I watched every now and then in the kitchen seeing him cook. Elena joined at the table and took part in the conversation about all kind of topics. I could understand most of the Italian they spoke to me, but for me I was better to speak in English because I had only 5 days Italian lessons. It was very intimate as if we were already good friends and when I came home there were already the email with pictures from the evening and links to good restaurants and other places for example where tot go to a nice beach. What a delightful time my family spent with Alessandro and Elena on Christmas Eve. Our party of 16 was treated to a delicious meal and true Italian hospitality. Overall, most of the group said that dinner was the highlight of the vacation.
