Cooking for me is more than just putting in a few ingredients to make the dish taste good. Cooking is therapeutic, it's my meditation, my connection with my soul. It's in my DNA! I have learnt everything I know about flavors and taste from my mother in her kitchen and she, from my grandmom's! An inheritance of sorts if you will, I started my journey with recipes that have deep grounding in history and those that were fool-proof as they have been tried and tested! As I grew confident and realized I had a gift, cooking came naturally to me while most struggled with even the basics. I, with the blessings of my mother, started to experiment and expand. Some were easy, some major disasters! The more I failed the more I was adamant to make it work. Then came what I think was my turning point - my marriage to a foodie husband ! He is so particular about taste and flavors and would not mince his words while passing judgement on my food! Walking off from the dining table, criticizing what I made became a norm! It just made me more determined than ever. I took it positively - an encouragement! Today he is my biggest fan and my worst critic! I do owe a lot of what I know about world cuisines to him and the fact that he pushes me to try a vegetarian version of every we see on our travels! I guess my scope is limited to anyone who is only interested in a vegetarian cuisine, but it is my belief that it's a better way to live, eat and feel good. My belief is as deep rooted in my genes as my love for cooking is.
