ABOUT THEEXPERIENCE

Join us for a unique hands-on cooking experience based on tradition in Barcelona. The classes are hosted by Grandmas who are willing to share their culinary secrets with you while cooking traditional Spanish and Catalan dishes.

In this tradition based cooking class you will spend a lovely time with Grandma in the kitchen. Our Grandma will be assisted by a social cook who will translate for her and make sure that you are having a great time while learning the traditional cuisine of Spain directly from the source. Every day we will have a Grandma sharing her best recipes with the attendees.

Every participant will have a cutting board, the required tools and an apron to take an active role in the cooking class. After the class, we will share our culinary creations in a group table set and have a toast to honour the knowledge we just learned from our Grandma of the day.

ABOUT THEMENU

Every Grandma will propose a full menu consisting of a starter, a main dish and a dessert.
We believe that ingredients play a crucial role in the cuisine. That’s why we use fresh and seasonal produce for our cooking classes, mainly sourced at the over 30 food markets displayed around the Barcelona City.

Get inspired by some examples on what you can expect on the Grandma’s Cooking Barcelona cookery classes. After the hand- on classes we will taste our creations paired with wine while having conversations and toasting to the grandma to thank her for having shared her recipes with us.

Here are some examples of dishes to whet your appetite:

Starters:
- Croquettes that are crazy good. Our grandma Merçè has three versions to share.
- Have you ever heard about Escalivada? It literally means “cooked in hot ashes” and it consists on cooking the three vegetables red pepper, onion and eggplant to get a smoke taste on them.
- And you will discover the secret to good Catalan Romesco Sauce. This classic sauce is traditionally used to eat the grilled calçots, a type of scallion or green onion. The main ingredients include grilled tomatoes and garlic head, almonds, hazelnuts and ñora pepper meat.

Main Dishes:
- The famous and ever popular Seafood Paella: our grandmas may cook up a black rice, colored with the ink of the cuttlefish and include seasonal artichokes. Or you may be part of a version with lobster.
- Do you know the Catalan Surf and Turf Dishes? Can you imagine a meatball stuffed with the cuttlefish tentacles and stewed in a fish broth? Chicken stew with crayfish and mussels could also easily happen in the Grandma’s classes.
- Fish from the Mediterranean Sea: Sole Fish with almond cream, Monkfish and Hake casserole, Cuttlefish with potatoes. Make this, step-by-step with Grandma:

Desserts:
- Three Layer Chocolate Cake: don´t miss out the secret of this tempting dessert.
- Pears cooked in Red Wine and Spices that will remind you to Christmas time: Cinnamon, clove, anise
- Torrijas: The British call it bread pudding, while Americans would probably call it "French Toast." Torrijas is a dessert recipe coming from the south of Spain during the XV century as a way to use up stale bread. Make torrijas with your own hands and savour the amazing flavour!

Our classes take place near the Plaça Real in downtown Barcelona. We are also within walking distance from the famous La Rambla and Plaça Real square.

We thoroughly enjoyed this special cooking class and feast with Ives. Shopping in La Boqueria Market and then cooking on his rooftop terrace with a full kitchen, overlooking all of Barcelona, was terrific. We are still trying to replicate his delicious seafood paella. We cooked with two other couples. Dinner, wine and conversation as the moon rose over Barcelona with the lights twinkling below was magical. It was a memorable experience!

I've taken two classes, the food is incredible, he sends you the recipes and is so nice and helpful and its a really good time! This was one of the best experiences I had in Barcelona.
