Thanks for taking the time to read a bit about me/us and what has inspired me/us to share our home and our passion for fun dining with you. "Keep Having Firsts," is my life's motto, which I developed as a young college student and Outward Bound Instructor, first for North Carolina OB, and later Colorado OB. I started traveling the world at a young age, and lived in Moscow, Russia, during the height of communism, giving me a broader perspective on diverse cultures and cuisines, and the true reality of freedom. By age 26, I had traveled to 49 of 50 states; and, by 1991, finally made it to the 50th, by cycling the entire Alaska Coast Highway, enjoying and learning to distinguish all the wild salmon I could - coho, silver, and king! My passion for cycling (and therefore eating!) grew exponentially, and while living in San Diego, I founded, promoted, produced and rode in the first-ever, all women's bike ride across the U.S. for breast cancer. We did this history-making event three times! Part of the challenge was feeding 50 people approximately 4-5,000 calories a day, made up of healthy and nutritious dishes! I served as "Executive Chef" for many meals during Outward Bound courses and the 42-day Ride Across America (which we did three times), for 6- 5o people! My outdoor cooking skills were recognized when Outward Bound asked me if I would consider writing an outdoor cuisine cookbook! At the same time, I ran my own company, Women In Motion, and led adventure-based and R&R trips for women, domestically and internationally, to include white water/ocean paddling, backpacking, rock climbing, snow sports, and eco- tourism, where we would prepare gourmet meals in all sorts of unbelievable settings. Prior to these entrepreneurial endeavors, I worked for Anheuser-Busch in sports marketing with special promotions, advertising, special events, and public relations while I served as national director of the IronKids programs for 10 years. Traveling all over the U.S. and internationally during this time, one of my goals was to find the top restuarants and local cuisine. As a goal-oriented person, and throughout this combo of vocation-avocation stuff, I challenged myself personally through Ultra-distance events, too. I combined work and pleasure while completing -- several times, the IronMan Triathlon in Kona, Hawaii, the Minnesota Border to Border Triathlon, the Mt. Taylor Winter Quadrathlon, and many more. In fact, I served on the USA Triathlon Board of Directors and as the U.S. Triathlon Junior Olympic Team Manager for 10 years; and, was a key player in the sport achieving full-fledged Olympic status, in 2000, in Australia. Training to eat, or eating to train? :) A few stints in marketing and communications for the United States Olympic Committee; as well as being a high school and community college teacher and professor and Dean at several universities, including the U.S.-based, world-renown culinary arts university, Johnson and Wales, highlight a career where I am so fortunate to combine my personal and professional passions. Dining adventures have been a huge part of our lives for decades and will continue to be --- It doesn't get any better than this! "Keep Having Firsts" has now translated to my family.....My wife, Karen, and I take at least one 'bucket-list" trip each year with our daughter (now 10). We just embarked on a RTW trip (Around the World) - one of those life goals we did not want to put off. We logged approx 50,000 miles, 25 countries, over 40 cities; and, spent five months of getting down with the locals and various cultures, all over the globe. Part of truly experiencing different cultures is experiencing the locals' traditions and traditional cuisine. You will see many of these unbelievable dishes in our "experiences" photo gallery. Currently, and for the last three years, my daughter and I have taught international cooking at her elementary school. Many more "firsts" to come !!! :) We consider our home base our personal "retreat"; our kitchen the source of food for the heart, mind and soul; and, our dining room a place to share all of the above with our special guests! We would be delighted to share it with you! Cheers and Bon Appetit! Ginny, Karen and Family
