As part of the curation process of BonAppetour, I had the privilege to try out Tram's food tour during my visit to HCMC. We departed on her motorbike and she swerved skillfully through the heavy traffic of Saigon. Tram is friendly and a great chit-chatting partner! She is very knowledgeable about the history of the city, and about the different types of street food that are available here. As I had just eaten before her tour (really should not have done that!), I told her that I don't really have a huge appetite- so she brought me just to 2 of her favorite destinations. For the first stop, we had some of the most delicious Vietnamese pizza. It was a twist to the same rice paper used for spring rolls, made in a grilled fashion with some very delicious and savory toppings. I got the chance to see the street vendor grilling it on the spot with charcoals, which was interesting. Tram also introduced me to one of my favorite drinks from my entire trip to Vietnam- the peach tea. It was uniquely served in a bowl, with tid bits of fresh peaches to top it off. Afterwards, we had great time indulging bánh bèo (steamed rice mini pancake, and finished a whooping 10 dishes each! Tram also ordered a variety of other rice pancake flavors and variations, to give me a taste of all the different possibilities. Tram has certainly showed me a different and unique local perspective of Saigon, that of a younger and hopeful generation who loves the city and the food it provides. It was really fun to hear Tram's stories and sharing- I would highly recommend this for those of you who are visiting Ho Chi Minh City.
