ABOUT THEEXPERIENCE

Hi Everyone, I am Sophia, welcome to my home-dining experience!

Passionate about culinary experiences from all aspects ranging from hosting, experimental cooking to exploring new dining forms like  street food, cafes and Michelin starred restaurants both locally and globally.

My foray into real cooking started way back during my undergraduate days in Australia where i was an overseas student living in the dormitory with 7 other housemates from different countries and cultures. As a child, I always watched mum in the kitchen and was mum's handy sous chef, so with some basic knowledge,  I naturally took on the role of the dorm chef. This meant handling the grocery funds to whipping up meals for 6-10 housemates almost daily whilst coping with project work during school term. It was challenging but I totally enjoyed the exploratory experiences and developed a mindset that food brings people together. My housemates and I would sit and chat over the food- exchanging feedback and tips on improving our next meal together.  It was also during these conversations that I learnt much about the diversity of our cultures and grew to appreciate the widespread menus that each culture offered.  But the most precious takeaways from the experience then was really the fact that food brought us together, and allowed us to built bonds and friendships accross miles that can withstand the test of time. Fast forward 20 years and nothing has really changed. Each time we meet up, we still enjoy a gathering of good food and great company, albeit with more finesse  now!

Over the years, I have hosted a multitude of informal sessions including cusines reflecting our Straits Chinese heritage, Singapore Local delicacies,  Korean BBQ and Samgetong (Korean Korean Ginseng Chicken broth), Japanese Ramen and all izakaya and loads of Singaporean Cantonese fare including Mad Hatters Fine Bone China settings

Given my propensity to personal branding, it is always my goal to ensure that my guest leaves my place with a multitude of memories of their food journey with me.

It is my desire to allow each guest to have a full blown 360 degree experience that encompasses all the 5 senses thus allowing my guests to totally be immersed in this culinary experience.

I take care to ensure that the set up is visually appealing. Food plating with the right mix of cutleries and crockey is as important to me as is the taste of the food and the quality of the ingredients used. The sense of touch- I like to engage my guest either through DIY or sharing of food experiences which puts my guest in the middle of the experience. This meal is for them and about them. The sounds and music then adds to the overall ambience and theme for the evening.

The outcome is that  all 5 senses come together to creare a medley of wonderful experiences leaving one with memories to take home and treasure for years to come.

Our experience at Sophia and Joseph's home was incredible. Scott and I were both getting tired after a long day of touring. Sophia's energy perked us right back to life; she and her husband have such a vibrance and passion for living which is infectious. The food was delicious. She truly went above and beyond and exceeded al expectations. Everything from the table settings, location in her yard, food, and dessert were incredible and level of spice was perfect. We loved hearing about their life and family. It was truly a huge highlight of our time in Singapore!
